I've always loved him, going way back to when I first saw him in the TV show "Homefront" in the early 90s. He was so cute and hunky in that, and I've had a crush ever since.

Homefront was a terrific series, with several hot or hottish men on it. Kyle, John Slattery, Harry O’Reilly, David Newsome - it was a veritable feast!

John Slattery was on that Homefront show and even back then he looked older than he was. Slattery, who played Al, is only 3 years older than Chandler, who played Jeff, but Al was the love interest of Jeff’s mom. At the time I had no idea the two of them were roughly the same age. Slattery must have been born looking 35.

I liked him in Friday Night Lights. That's all.

He has an old school, non-Hollywood (or very old-Hollywood) look. You see faces like his in old WWII photos. Middle American faces. That's why he was cast in 'Homefront', and in the most recent incarnation of 'King Kong' (which I loved). I went to an all-boy Catholic high school, and we had guys who looked like him. I know that some of my fellow queens would have been in heaven seeing all the blond and ginger pubes I saw in the locker room. It was totally ordinary and mundane to me, and it was only much later that I discovered I was exposed to a rare treasure trove, since that was unknown to most DLers.

I actually bought bootleg DVDs of Homefront about 10 years ago, because I had loved the series when it aired on ABC. We just pulled them out to view in December and I had the same feeling that I did when the show was abruptly cancelled originally. WHY?? Why did they cancel this excellent series? Holy fuck the cast is top-notch--Kyle, Ken Jenkins, Mimi Kennedy, John Slattery, Kelly Rutherford... It felt like the show was just hitting its stride. Maybe it was too expensive to film, or too wholesome for the grungy '90s, I don't know. At least they gave it a 2-hour wrap-up.

Whoever was responsible for the look and feel of the show sure paid attention to details. I loved the women's hairstyles and clothing. The store, nightclub and home sets were fantastic. Loved the old cars, the music and the live radio shows. Even though it was a soap, the producers did a great job of weaving in tough issues like racism, unions, and the iron-fisted Catholic church.

If you are able to find it on Youtube or elsewhere, give yourself a treat.

PS. Kyle is shirtless in the pilot and Season One opening credits. My husband, who had never seen the series, said "OH! He's a puppy!"
